The Knickerbocker is at the heart of New York’s history. It’s also the first boutique hotel in the famous Times Square. The hotel opened in 1906, but closed in 1920. It then became offices before reopening as a hotel in 2015, its history of serving cocktails to the rich and famous untarnished.
Its Beaux-Art style exterior intact, it fronts onto a street famous all over the world: Broadway. On the inside, the refurbishment has given rise to a luxury aesthetic that’s quintessentially Manhattan. Every room has 12 foot high ceilings and 8 foot high doors, so you can be assured of space amidst the luxury.
If you’re dining in, then the Knickerbocker has a fourth floor restaurant overlooking Times Square and Broadway that serves local food. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, it’s only open for breakfast. There’s also a rooftop restaurant, though the café is currently closed due to COVID. But arguably the hotel’s greatest facility is its location.
If you’re into musicals, the hotel’s on Broadway, which is currently playing host to Chicago, The Lion King and David Byrne’s American Utopia. Nearby is The Empire State Building and Grand Central Station. A mile to the north is the world-famous Central Park with its zoo and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
